Family's Loyalties Are Split on River

This weekend's Northumbrian Water Boat Race will split one family down the middle.

Cousins Ollie Hunter-Smart and Paddy Thomas will be going head-to-head on opposing sides, as Newcastle University and Durham University do battle on the Tyne on Sunday.

Ollie will be rowing for Newcastle University's Freshers' VIII, while Patrick will be part of Durham's Men's First VIII.

The cousins' rivalry has been put to the test already, when Ollie and Paddy went head-to-head during a rowing machine relay at the official Boat Race Challenge two weeks ago.

On that occasion Ollie came out on top, so Paddy will have a score to settle when they take to the water on Sunday.

Although they won't be rowing against each other in the same race, both cousins are determined to help their universities to victory in the three-race series.
