A photography project has helped young people outside mainstream school develop their talents.

Youngsters in Redcar and Cleveland's 'Education Other Than At School' (EOTAS) service were handed disposable cameras and told to snap away.

The project aimed to bring out their creativity - and it has proved a huge success. Their pictures give a fascinating snapshot of life as they see it.

Now the search is on for venues to stage an exhibition of the youngsters' work.

Terry Moore, acting deputy head of EOTAS and a photographer himself, said: "We bought 60 disposable cameras and two pounds 220 Canon cameras and just told them to take what they wanted - we were non-specific.

"When we saw some of the first photos, we decided to be a bit more specific! We asked them to look at the community and photograph what they thought was attractive and what wasn't."

All EOTAS youths are with the service because normal comprehensive education is inappropriate for them. …
