Billingham Marsh House Harriers recorded a notable double when winning the male team competition at the second fixture of the North Yorkshire and South Durham Track and Field League at Shildon.

Marsh House surprised everyone when they won the team competition at the opening fixture and they continued their success story by winning with an even bigger margin.

Richmond and Zetland were convincing team winners of the female sections and they also lead the combined male and female aggregate category from second placed Middlesbrough and Cleveland.

The senior men's 3,000 metres ended the programme on a high note, featuring an excellent battle between Richmond and Zetland's Jon Orange and Middlesbrough and Cleveland's Glen Hilton.

The former moved clear in the final lap for a hard-fought victory in 9:14.2 with Hilton second and Paul Best of the host club third.

The senior ladies 3,000 metres saw the first three places filled by the league's top three cross country runners with Darlington's Bernadette Taylor triumphing in 10:27.1 from Richmond and Zetland's Louise Jackson (10:38.3) and Middlesbrough and Cleveland's Carolyn Summersgill (10:54.5).

The athlete of the match award went to a member of the host club - Shildon's Alexander Todd - who won the under 15 boys 100 metres in a speedy 12.1 seconds.
