England defender Rio Ferdinand cannot believe the fuss caused by a late-night incident involving hotel maintenance staff in La Manga.

The Manchester United player and Chelsea's John Terry were reported to have been playing pool in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the Spanish resort at about 3.30am when an alleged dispute took place with two members of the hotel staff.

However, Ferdinand said: "Stories of this so-called incident leave a little bit of a sour taste. But I can hold my head up high, as I know the truth of it.

"I cannot believe the fuss. It was all a misunderstanding and settled straight away."

Ferdinand claimed it was a language barrier that left the England players snookered.
