TALLAHASSEE -- Jacksonville waited a long time -- 13 2/3 innings -- to score its first NCAA regional tournament runs. The Dolphins, however, never had the opportunity to enjoy their rally from a 4-0 deficit yesterday against Rutgers.

"I thought we were ready to go," JU coach Terry Alexander said after the Dolphins followed up a two-run fifth with a three-run sixth for a 5-4 lead. "But we turned around and gave up a crooked number in the [top of the seventh] inning. When you score and get back in the game, you've got to shut them down the next inning. That was probably the key to the game. We didn't get that done."

Rutgers' Nick Cerulo tripled and scored on Josh Deel's wild pitch, tying the game. Vinny Esposito's three-run homer allowed the Scarlet Knights to advance with an 8-5 victory.

Unable to duplicate last weekend's magical run to the Atlantic Sun Conference championship, the Dolphins (32-30) bowed out of a regional in consecutive games for just the fourth time in 10 appearances. …
