It is National Carers' Week and a group of youngsters from Tyneside are marking it with a special exhibition and drama project in Newcastle

An exhibition of artwork by a group of teenagers who spend much of their lives caring for others is on display at Newcastle's Discovery Museum this week.

Our Lives portrays the life of a young carer and acknowledges the contribution they make to the community.

The exhibition, which runs until Saturday, is part of a series of events and activities to celebrate National Carers' Week.

They have been organised by Gateshead Crossroads, a charity which offers support to carers.

The exhibition was inspired by the ideas and imagination of the young carers and developed by artist Sharon Wilson and Zoe Brown, outreach officer at the Discovery Museum.

It explores the emotions and challenges the carers' experience as part of their everyday lives. The group of 36 teenagers, who are aged between 11 and 14 years, all share similar circumstances, each having significant caring responsibilities for a relative. …
