Skirting around

I've got several knee length bias-cut skirts that I bought last year. I can't bear to throw them out. Can I still get away with them?

Yes, absolutely.

The bias-cut thing just seems to run and run.

Last year it was part of an ultra-feminine mood. All those teeny-weeny handbags and kitten heels. The twist now is to dress the garden-party vibe down by adding sportswear. Team your skirt with a hooded top - corduroy is newer than velour - and add trainers. Both Juicy Couture and CXD do hooded tops (above, [pounds sterling]167, Juicy Couture at Selfridges).

Join the stripe club

I have a Breton T-shirt which I bring out every year, but it's getting a bit tatty.

Where can I get another one?

How very fashionable of you. Breton T-shirts are the height of chic right now. Liz and Damian Hurley wore stripey T-shirts recently. Matching your clothes to your kids is a total no-no. But these tops were nice.

The classic Breton top has long sleeves and a slash neck. Aim for a thick fabric so it doesn't look cheap.

A couple of further tips.

Since we are talking about horizontal stripes, which can make you look fatter, don't go too baggy with the shape.

You'll turn yourself into a baby elephant, or maybe that should be a very fat zebra. Labour and Wait, just off Brick Lane, has really good little Breton T-shirts, reasonably priced at [pounds sterling]16.

Look, no hands!

I have two small children which means, while I desperately need a handbag to carry all their stuff, I don't have a hand free to carry one. Help!

I know the feeling. When you give birth, they don't tell you about all the stuff you're going to need. Never mind 'Is it a boy or a girl?', if I ever have another one I want a Sherpa.

Anyway, one way round this is to get a backpack. Camelbak does really stylish rucksacks, available at Snow + Rock (above right, [pounds sterling]75, 0845 100 1000).

Turn your feet to jelly

I need a new pair of summer sandals. Any suggestions? …
