Launch of Unique Brand for River's Marine and Offshore Sector

A pioneering initiative is boosting regeneration on and around the River Tyne with the launch of a unique brand to promote the marine engineering and offshore technology sector across the world.

The Tyne First brand, which was unveiled at a special launch event in Newcastle last week, will continue the renaissance of the industry and promote the river as a world-class centre of excellence. Industry representatives, trainees, union bosses and civic leaders gathered at the launch of the new initiative at Live Theatre and the unveiling of its visual identity. Afterwards, they boarded a boat to view some of the industry's re-growth along the River Tyne at first hand.

As well as a world-renowned, highly skilled workforce, the River Tyne has a proud history in shipbuilding, conversion, fabrication and repair - and that tradition continues today.

Tyne First will ensure that the companies operating within the marine and offshore technology sector will be just as renowned for modern innovations in new technologies, design and production methods.

This unifying brand has been designed to holistically promote the whole range of engineering excellence and technological expertise based on the Tyne, by promoting the capacity and capability of the river's main sector businesses and the supply chain.

The Tyne First brand will be used to place the river at the forefront of the global offshore and marine industry, and strengthen the Tyne's worldwide status.

Consequently, this will help to continue the Tyne's resurgence over the last 10 years, strengthen the river's position within the industry, help win even more international contracts and safeguard jobs.

The umbrella brand has been developed by the Jobs on the Riverside Project (JRP), a public and private sector partnership, as a marketing tool to demonstrate the area's capabilities as a world-class unit of production.

Running in tandem with its promotion of the Tyne's marine and offshore sector to the global market, JRP is working to change perceptions of the sector within the region - positively profiling it as a modern and advanced industry with a good future and excellent career opportunities. …
