Thumbs Up for Toms as He Races to Second Title

David Toms became the seventh multiple winner on the PGA Tour this season after firing a seven-under-par 64 to pull away for a three-stroke victory at the St Jude Classic in Memphis.

Toms finished the birdie-blitz with a 72-hole total of 20 under par at 264 - the third-best score in the 46-year history of the event.

The other two also came at the TPC at Southwind, which has hosted the tournament every year since 1989.

In 25 events this season, seven players have combined for 16 wins. Davis Love III and Mike Weir have three titles each, with Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Kenny Perry and now Toms claiming two each.

Nick Prize of Zimbabwe was second on 17 under at 267 after carding a 62.

Third-round leader Richard Johnson shared third with fellow Swede Fredrik Jacobson and 2001 champion Bob Estes on 268. …
