Slimmers in Berwick Hills, Middlesbrough, were holding a fundraising drive today to buy a disabled track racing chair for a child.

The Slimming World class is hosting a cash-generating evening for 13-year-old Ashleigh Peacock, grandaughter of class member Iris Gray. Iris is setting the example for her classmates, having lost three-and-a-half stones. All are welcome at the event in Joe Walton's Community Centre, upstairs in the Neptune Centre.

Inquest opened

AN INQUEST into the death of a retired crane driver has been opened and adjourned at Teesside Coroner's Court. James Phillip Hackett, 60, was pronounced dead by a doctor at his home in Kinloss Walk, Thornaby, on June 26, the court heard. Evidence of identification was given by wife Patricia Hackett.
