Teesside pair Martyn Lightfoot and Mick Starkey proudly stand joint top of the Northern Saloon and Sports Car Championship leaderboard.

The duo made home advantage count in round four of the Darlington and District MC-organised series at Croft Circuit on Sunday as morning leader Neil Gregory (Westfield XTR2) succumbed to mechanical problems.

Lightfoot, from Redmarshall, took his Sylva Striker to ninth on the road in the Class A, E and F race - but more importantly he was the first Class F driver home.

That race was won by Brian Robinson (Porsche 930), ahead of Robert Pritchard (Caterham) and reigning NSSCC champion Phil Morris (Caterham).

Robinson was involved in a three-way tussle at the front before teenager Charlie Kemp blew the diff in his TVR Tuscan and became one of the many retirements.

Paul Lidby (Porsche 993) won Class A1, while Pritchard took the A2 honours and Morris claimed maximum Class E points.

Andrew Morrison (MG ZR KV6) led a capacity grid home in the Class B, C and D race, ahead of Alistair McMillan (Escort Cosworth) and Steven Ferguson, who might have finished higher but for a blown turbo on his Nissan Pulsar GTi. …
