While he was possibly the unlucky horse in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, Nevisian Lad will have to avoid getting out of the stalls so slowly if he is to compete successfully at Group level.

Despite missing the break, as he had done on his debut, he had to pull out wide to get a run and finished best of all in third behind Russian Valour.

When he made his racecourse introduction at Newmarket, he was also slowly into his stride, but showed the right attitude to get up close home to snatch a short-head verdict over Soonest.

Michael Bell's colt tackles an extra furlong in the TNT July Stakes at Newmarket today and that shouldn't be a problem judged by the good work he was putting in at the finish last time.

Mark Johnston's juveniles almost swept the board at the Royal meeting and he is represented here by Parkview Love, who showed admirable courage and determination to land the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom.

Tough as old boots, which is typical of most youngsters from his stable, Parkview Love will be a formidable rival, as will Holborn after his victory in the Windsor Castle Stakes. …
