David Dunn is looking to regain his place in the England squad next season after joining Birmingham.

Manager Steve Bruce plans to play Dunn in an attacking central midfield role - his preferred position.

Dunn has joined Birmingham for a fee believed to be around pounds 5.5 million after leaving his home town club Blackburn.

Manager Graeme Souness was critical of Dunn's lifestyle and the fact he picked up niggling injuries.

While Dunn accepts he has suffered a dip in form, he claimed it was because he was being played out of position. "I'm a centre midfielder but sometimes I played on the right wing or left wing for Blackburn," he said.

"When you're playing for the team you love, you will play anywhere.

"I have always believed in my own ability and still do.

"I know my form has maybe not been up to scratch but I now feel Steve Bruce can get the best out of me."

Dunn is hoping his move to the Midlands will catch the eye of England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson. …
