Katy Sets Her Sights on Athens Glory

Redcar student Katy Livingston continued her climb up the British women's Modern Pentathlon rankings with an impressive silver medal at the national junior championships.

Katy, who is aged 19, was competing in just her third full pentathlon after only recently taking up the horse riding element of this demanding five-discipline Olympic event.

She defeated all but one of her more experienced rivals in a strongly contested event at Stoke Mandeville.

What makes Katy's performance all the more creditable is that this is her first year in this age group for women up to the age of 21.

After a steady opening fencing discipline, Katy chalked up a personal best in the pistol shooting competition scoring 175 out of a maximum of 200.

However, Saltburn and Marske swimmer Katy's best event was in the pool where she reduced her personal best by a staggering ten seconds, stopping the clock at 2min 20sec for the 200m swim.

Following a pleasing round in the indoor show jumping arena, Katy went into the final event, the 3000m run, holding a narrow second place overall. …
