Kenneth Bjerre's third maximum of the season was the highlight of a superb performance by the whole of the KBS Diamonds team as they celebrated their first away win of the year in last night's Premier League match at Reading.

Bjerre opened the contest with the quickest time by any rider this season around the Smallmead track and comfortably won all five of his races.

Newcastle skipper Kevin Little enjoyed four victories while Stuart Robson won twice and the KBS Diamonds were already 10-7 ahead when Reading's captain Andrew Appleton crashed heavily in his first ride and was ruled out of the meeting with an injured left leg.

Despite several delays for various crashes plus the dazzling sunset, Newcastle remained in control of the match and William Lawson deserved more than his four points as he was harshly excluded from first place in heat two when Reading's Joel Parsons crashed as Lawson overtook him. Parsons later admitted in the pits that the fall was his own fault but he still kept that race. …
