One man has been charged with attempted murder and a second man is being sought on the same charge after a Nassau County man was severely beaten for confronting them about selling marijuana in his neighborhood, authorities said.

The victim, a 36-year-old resident of James Road in Callahan, was in critical but stable condition yesterday at Shands Jacksonville hospital, Col. The men fled after punching and kicking the victim and smashing him in the head with a chunk of concrete block after knocking him down, according to a report.

Farris Sinclay Melton, 24, of Callahan was arrested in Jacksonville Monday and charged with attempted murder. A warrant for attempted murder has been issued for Tari Dajuan Mitchell, 21, of Callahan, who police identified as the second attacker. The driver of the car, Gregory Joseph Crandell, 24, of Jacksonville, surrendered and has been charged as an accessory, Seagraves said.
