A new tracking system which analyses death rates among GPs' patients could prevent a possible repeat of the Harold Shipman killing spree, researchers said today.

A team from Imperial College London developed the system to help track death rates for patients of individual GPs as well as monitor performance across general practices.

Air peace bid

LEADERS of the three trade unions involved in the British Airways swipe card dispute were meeting today, as hopes rose that a peace deal may be close. Sir Bill Morris, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, Kevin Curran, general secretary of the GMB and Paul Talbot, assistant general secretary of Amicus, were due to meet at the TUC's headquarters.
