Get ready to bite into SuperMelt sandwiches and cool yourself off with a Jim Dandy sundae: Friendly's restaurants are coming to Jacksonville.

Friendly's became famous along the East Coast for its homemade ice cream, but it offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, too.

The plan is to open 10 restaurants over the next seven years, with the first opening either in December or January, said Anthony Kurnellas, who manages a Friendly's in Philadelphia. He is opening the Jacksonville restaurants with three partners.

The partners are keeping hush about where the first location may be, since they're still negotiating to acquire the land. But the local Friendly's will be free-standing and located somewhere in Duval County.

The restaurants will seat 160 to 180 and have three areas: a dining room, a carry-out window and a retail area where people can buy packages of any of the 30 flavors of ice cream that Friendly Ice Cream Corp. …
