Oldest Rider Is Booked at Hull

Swindon-born Malcolm Holloway will become the oldest rider ever to wear a Newcastle KBS Diamonds' body-colour when he takes the place of injured reserve Jamie Robertson in tonight's Premier League match at Hull (writes BARRY WALLACE).

Holloway is 46 and appears mainly for Swindon's Conference League side, the Sprockets, as rider/coach, though he occasionally turns out for Trelawny in the Premier League, as he did at Brough Park last month.

The veteran's acceptance of the booking came as a great relief to team boss George English, who spent most of yesterday ringing round trying to get a guest replacement for Robertson.

English said, "I don't mind admitting Holloway was the 19th rider on my list and he knows himself he was nowhere near first choice.

"But at least Malcolm is willing to ride, and we need a full team if we are to have a chance of getting another away win."

The scarcity of reserve riders is due to an unprecedented amount of other meetings taking place on what is usually one of the sport's quietest nights. …
