STARKS SHIFTS TO GUARD

Senior Max Starks spent the last two practices at right guard instead of the left tackle position he played last year.

The play of junior college transfer Tavarus Washington at left tackle and a lack of depth at right guard prompted Florida coaches to experiment on the line.

"Coaches said there was a little weakness at right guard, so I thought I would step it up," Starks said. "I just decided, 'I'm a senior. We need the best five on the field.' It wasn't a shock [to change positions]. I've played a different position every season since I've been here. It's no big difference for me."

CARTER'S RECOVERY HAS FAR TO GO

Florida CB Deshawn Carter said he has a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the defense, but he's just glad he physically has the chance.

A lung infection sidelined Carter, a backup at corner, for most of the spring and caused him to drop 25 pounds. …
