A KIND-hearted soul who rushed to help when his pal's elderly mum collapsed has been nominated for our Good Neighbour Award.

Martin Baldwin was first to come to the rescue when 86-year-old Catherine Maughan fell at 4am on a cold winter's night last December.

For both Catherine and her son Bill, Martin's friendship has been invaluable over the last two years as he has been a constant support in their times of need.

"I care for my mum and Marty treats her like his own mother," Bill said.

"One morning I found her on the floor and Marty came straight up to help put her back into bed and make sure she was all right.

"He's not in perfect health himself but he is always there with his support and the kettle is always on, whether it's first thing in the morning, the afternoon or the middle of the night. I don't think he's aware of how much of a support he is.

"I would trust him with my life. I wish there were more people like him," the 57-year-old retired transport worker added. …
