DE Tony Brackens practiced on a limited basis yesterday morning for the first time since having microfracture surgery on his left knee last November.

Brackens, the Jaguars' career sack leader, was taken off the "active/physically unable to perform" list before being put through some light drills during the two-hour morning practice.

Coach Jack Del Rio said Brackens was held back as a precaution but that the veteran lineman's workload would increase later in the week. Del Rio did not say if Brackens would play in Saturday night's preseason game at Tampa Bay.

"The only limits on Tony are for us to work him in responsibly," Del Rio said. "We don't want to go from running on the side to a full-go, full-speed, full-contact drill. But he's been cleared and is practicing, and we'll continue to increase his [practice repetitions]."


TE end Kyle Brady was the latest victim of the stomach virus that -- combined with the heat -- has hit the Jaguars' camp hard this summer.

Brady had to leave practice early yesterday morning when high temperatures and humidity aggravated his upset stomach. Brady joins OL Daryl Terrell, OG Chris Naeole and SS Donovin Darius on the list of players who have missed practice or left early in the last week because of the virus.

"That bug is still going around," Del Rio said. "Kyle was gutting it through practice, but in the end, he just needed to get under the [medical] tent. It was the smart thing to do."


Although Del Rio said RB Fred Taylor would return to practice this week after missing two weeks with a bone bruise in his knee, Taylor was out again yesterday.

Taylor ran on the side during the morning session but said he remains uncertain about his return date. …
