Baker Praises His `Awesome' Spartans

Jubilant Blyth boss Paul Baker today described his team's 5-0 UniBond League Premiership Division win at Spennymoor as "nothing short of awesome."

Baker watched in delight as a hat-trick by Graham Fenton, a goal by Anthony Woodhouse and an own goal saw the Spartans take their impressive start to the season to two wins and seven goals without reply.

He said: "The people at Spennymoor were telling me that it is a long time since they have seen such a good team. We were awesome. There is no other word to describe our performance."

Spennymoor, managed by former Newcastle striker Alex Mathie, were trailing 1-0 at half time before Blyth turned up the heat.

Meanwhile, Dunston Fed manager Bob Scaife saw his side beat Bedlington in an Albany Northern League match at Federation Park and then told his players that there is still a lot of work to do.

Goals in each half by Michael Farrey (penalty) and Steve Pickering condemned the Terriers to defeat. …
