Shootings `May Have Drugs Link'

Police in West Virginia are investigating a possible drugs connection with sniper shootings that have killed three people since last Thursday.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Department chief deputy Phil Morris said there was a possible link to the sale and use of methamphetamines in two of the killings.

"We would be remiss in not mentioning the possible drug connection," he said. "A number of people we have talked with are trying to tie this to drugs."

He would not say if the victims had connections with drugs.

He said investigators had not determined whether the victims knew each other.

The killings were in Campbells Creek, where local people say that drug use is on the rise.

Mr Morris said: "We are not saying there isn't a random shooter.

"We are not saying residents can stop looking over their shoulder.

"We are simply saying there is a drug problem in Campbells Creek and we're looking at it very seriously. …
