Today we look at a day in the life of Mahmood Mohammed, the managing director of Mahmood & Co Accountants.

5.45am: Get up. Leave for work with my son Daud, who is an assistant accountant and trainee auditor with us.

7am: First meeting with clients. As many are working hard running enterprises, out-of-hours meetings come with the territory.

9am: Sort through post, faxes and e-mail. Check daily news updates on professional association websites. Address any issues relating to the running of our business. This is when I deal with our own business planning, rather than our clients'. See any sales representatives by appointment.

10am: Plan my day and forthcoming days. Update diary. Make any follow up calls necessary from yesterday's business.

10.45am: Write a report required by a client's bank.

Noon: Working lunch with a client. We all need to eat at lunchtime, and if we can do business too we are killing two birds with one stone. …
