Newcastle Falcons won't be taking any risks in tonight's pre-season friendly against Glasgow at Hughenden.

That means they won't be sending out new skipper Mark Andrews, centre Tom May and scrum-half James Grindal.

All three are still recovering from a summer of treatment for injuries they picked up at the end of last season and Falcons manager Rob Andrew is not prepared to take any chances with the trio with just three weeks to go their opening Premiership match at home to Saracens.

"All three are okay but we are just not prepared to take any risks bearing in mind that we could also lose five players to the World Cup," said Andrew. "We're very aware that Mark's shoulder still needs a bit more time and Tom is recovering from the cruciate knee ligament injury he picked up in the Bath game at the end of last season and James had his thumb pinned after he broke it at the end last season."
