Ryton could lose their Division A1 status this weekend if results go against them tomorrow.

The club are currently bottom of the table and 61 points from safety, with Annfield Plain occupying the third-from-bottom slot with 137 points.

Ryton are at Lintz tomorrow - and if they lose heavily and fail to take a point while Plain take the maximum 20 points from their game at title-chasing Newcastle City, Ryton's relegation will be confirmed.

Even if Ryton do pick up points, time is running short for them, with just four more games left after this weekend, and they would need to put together a remarkable winning streak to avoid relegation.

Last season Ryton avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth, winning their final three games while Benwell & Walbottle lost all three of theirs, but this time it appears their luck has run out.

Next-to-bottom Backworth, who play Tynedale tomorrow, also looked doomed as they are only 10 points better off than Ryton. …
