Country Lane That's Always in the Frame

Looking at the same road for 12 months may not sound like much fun - but that depends on how you see it!

North-East artist Jane Veitch has spent the last year painting just one lane near her home and the result is 19 paintings which form an exhibition called The Fell Road.

Jane, from Newbrough, near Hexham, says she became fascinated with the road, a minor route leading to Haydon Bridge, after walking her dogs there.

"I know I've been concentrating on it for a year, but I feel as if I've only just scratched the surface. There is so much variety to look at - the sky, the plants and the insects along the way," said Jane, a mother-of-two grown-up children who lives with her husband Neil at Forge House.

"These days, we tend to hop in our car and drive somewhere and it is so easy to forget that we are an integral part of the nature around us.

"I started on this because I'm really interested in what people must have thought of their surroundings in years gone by when they didn't travel very far away from their homes at all. …
