A council worker was snapped parking on a double yellow line only three days after the Drawing the Line campaign was launched.

The man was spotted parking his council van outside Greggs on Linthorpe Road the day after Middlesbrough Council launched its crackdown on parking offences in the town.

He was photographed coming out of the sandwich shop with a carrier bag of food on Tuesday.

From last Monday the council took charge of parking enforcement from the police, as reported in the Gazette last Saturday .

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "We don't know the specific circumstances in this case."

He added: "If someone is driving a council vehicle and are on council business they are exempt from prosecution.

"If they are not on council business, they will be subject to the same penalties as any other motorist.

"If we have evidence that a council employee is breaking the rules then they will be treated exactly the same as anyone else. …
