2 Captured after High-Speed Chase; Charged with Robbing Store

Two Jacksonville men were arrested Thursday for the armed robbery of a gasoline station near Orange Park after they led Clay County and Jacksonville police on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash on I-295 and their arrest in Mandarin, police said.

Hakim Atkinson, 23, was in the Duval County jail under a Clay County warrant for armed robbery. He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Cornelius Parker, 26, was in the Clay County jail on a charge of accessory to robbery.

The robbery occurred at 2:19 a.m., according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office. After the clerk at the Chevron gas station at 629 Blanding Boulevard unlocked the front door to let in one man, a second man wearing a red ski mask ran inside armed with a gun.

The gunman ordered the clerk to his knees and then forced him to open the cash register and hand over cash. The gunman and his accomplice ran to a black Kia Sephia, which headed north on Blanding Boulevard while the clerk called police. …
