Doors will open on some key heritage sites in Middlesbrough this weekend .

As part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme, council owned and privately owned buildings will be open to the public.

Judith Croft, Middlesbrough Council's events and entertainments manager, said: "The heritage scheme allows us to throw open the doors to some of the town's most interesting buildings that are packed full of incidents and events that have shaped Middlesbrough's history.

"The heritage days are a great opportunity for people to get behind the scenes and discover more about their local history."

The Heritage Open Days programme in Middlesbrough includes:

Friday September 12: Tours of the Town Hall at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm; tours of Middlesbrough's historic town quarter starting from the railway station at 10am and noon, to pre-book telephone 01642 728194; tours of the Central Library at 11am and 2.30pm.

Saturday September 13: Tour of Newham Grange Leisure Farm at 10am to 11am, free admission to the Transporter Bridge visitor centre from 9am to 5pm and free rides for pedestrians on the bridge's gondola from 9am to noon, tours of Teesside Archives in Exchange Square at 11am and 2. …
