Four Middleburg High students in the schools's Naval Junior ROTC program competed in the NJROTC Florida Orienteering Meet in the Ocala National Forest earlier this month. More than 100 cadets from across the state attended the training camp, which ended with a competition. The Middleburg cadets competed in the Yellow Course in orienteering, a timed event in which groups or individuals cross woodland courses using land navigation techniques with compasses and maps looking for placed markers. They took first place in the team event, beating 50 other teams, including cadets from Nease High School in St. Johns County, which is nationally ranked in NJROTC competitions. The cadets who competed for Middleburg were junior Trey James, who served as commander, and senior James Lawler, junior Brandon Horsley and freshman Drew Baker.
