Frizzante Backed for Ayr Gold Cup

Article excerpt

Support for Frizzante in Saturday's Tote Ayr Gold Cup continues to gather momentum after further support for the James Fanshawe-trained filly yesteryday.

Ladbrokes have trimmed the four-year-old daughter of Efisio to 7-1 (from 8-1), favourite Fire Up The Band is just a point shorter.

"Frizzante has been nibbled at further today confirming the strong vibes earlier in the week," said Balthazar Fabricius of Ladbrokes.

Fanshawe's charge ran a fine race in defeat on her latest start in the Vodafone Stewards' Cup.

She was the only one to make a race of it with Patavellian and company from her low draw and was only beaten three lengths in fourth.

Grizedale has also been the subject of a market move and is now a 20-1 chance (from 33) with Coral.

The Jon Akehurst-trained gelding last ran at Newmarket in July when he finished ninth, beaten five lengths, to Patavellian in the Ladbrokes Bunbury Cup.

Both Frizzante and Grizedale have winning form on quick ground, conditions they may well encounter at the weekend.

Clerk of the course Chris Kennedy looks set to water the track at Ayr after a lack of recent forecast rain left the ground on the quick side.

The Tatling looks set to bypass the race in favour of a trip to Newbury on the same day.

Trainer Milton Bradley said his Group One-placed gelding is "pretty certain" to contest the Dubai International Airport World Trophy at the Berkshire track with Frankie Dettori booked for the ride.

"I'm pretty certain he'll go to Newbury," the Chepstow-based handler said. "I think there's some rain forecast at Ayr and he'd be giving weight to everything.

"There's not a lot of entries in the Newbury race (13 at the five-day stage) and it's quite a nice race if he could win it."

The Tatling's best effort so far this season came when he chased home Oasis Dream in the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes at York. …
