City Sees Marina, Condos for Land; Commission to Vote Monday on Property

ST. AUGUSTINE -- The City Commission is leaning toward having a marina, condominiums and some open space possibly for a park on prime city-owned property along the San Sebastian River.

The commission discussed yesterday how it wants to develop the 14-acre property on the south side of Lorida Street near King and Riberia streets, just outside historic downtown. Most of the commissioners also indicated they want a hotel, parking garage and some retail elements on the property.

The commission will formally vote Monday on its desires for the land. The Monday meeting begins at 5 p.m. in City Hall, 75 King St. Then the city will begin seeking proposals from developers, a process that will take at least 90 days, said Assistant City Manager Jack Cubbedge.

The property is worth $4.46 million according to an appraisal conducted last month, Cubbedge said.

"There's no other piece of property like it in St. Augustine," Commissioner Susan Burk said. …
