Pupil Excels with Brains and Brawn

A budding athlete has proved he has brains as well as brawn after achieving top grades in his GCSE exams.

Robert Tregoning, 16, is a pupil at St Bede's School in Lanchester, County Durham, and also represents the country in junior athletics.

At just five, Robert started his training at the Deerness Valley Gymnastics club and by the age of nine had won his first national acrobatic gymnastics competition.

Working with sister Sarah, 14, they won the National School Acrobatic final twice and two years ago he became a member of the junior British squad and won his first international medal.

Robert is now ranked second in the world for acro-gymnastics junior mixed pairs.

But his biggest celebration of all came this summer when he received six A* and four As at GCSE.

Roger Purdy, head of sixth form at St Bede's, said the entire school is proud of Robert's achievements.
