A Teenage leukaemia battler has been deprived of her new scooter by callous thieves.

Laura Howe had only just received the Yahama scooter from her dad Dave to congratulate her recent exam success.

But last weekend thieves took the pounds 2,000 machine - along with a cycle used by Dave during a recent cancer charity bike ride - after breaking into the family's garage in Normanby.

Firefighter Dave completed the ride from John O'Groats to Land's End in July with Laura's grandfather Peter Howe, Andy Daynes, Micky Good and Carl Smith.

"Laura's scooter had only 30 miles on the clock and she had been on it only once, as the week we gave it to her she was in hospital with a chest infection," said Dave.

"I'd only got it for her because she'd done so well in her exams, getting ten GCSEs.

"Because of her illness her school attendance was only about 50pc, so we're really chuffed at her exam success."

Laura, 16, has now started a childcare course at college and hopes to become a nurse. …
