Four incidents late Sunday and early Monday on the Southside left a man with a gashed head following an attack, another man shot at but not hit, a taxicab driver threatened with a gun and two victims hit with a shovel and hammer.

Officers arrested attackers in three of the four events, and confiscated a handgun, a bloodied piece of steel bar, baseball bat, hammers and a shovel. They are still searching for the man who threatened the cabdriver.

-- The first incident occurred at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, when a 39-year-old transient was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery in the attack on a man at the Jacksonville Ale House at 9711 Deer Lake Court with a steel bar, police said.

The victim told police he was standing in the bathroom when something hit him in the head. He turned around to defend himself, and his attacker hit him again. The two struggled and the attacker ran out, throwing down the steel bar, police said. Other patrons chased the attacker and held him in the parking lot until police arrived.

The attacker tried to kick out a police car window after his arrest, officers said. Officers put him in a full restraint and charged him with resisting an officer without violence and criminal mischief for damaging the police car, police said.

-- The next attack occurred at 1:07 a.m. the next day at Wackos Show Bar at 3701 Emerson St., when shots were fired, police said. The result was the arrest of a 40-year-old Westside man and 34-year-old Southside man on charges of aggravated assault and use of a firearm while under the influence after a fight outside the club, police said.

Police said the two men were arguing with club management and were escorted out by bouncers. The men tried to confront the manager before walking to their Mercedes-Benz sports utility vehicle, grabbing a handgun and firing a shot, police said. The men also shot at a 27-year-old Westside man who was just leaving, but missed.

The men drove away, but police pulled them over in the 7000 block of Powers Avenue at 1 a.m. and arrested them after club employees identified them. …
