Biking Tragedy Prompts Launch of Business

A biking enthusiast has turned his passion for the sport into an online business.

Peter Atherton of Hebburn hopes his new internet motorcycle community - www.1Down5Up - will help save lives and educate bikers about safety as well as providing up to date news for bikers.

Mr Atherton has already attracted big names from the biking world to help promote the site.

Superbike champions Ron Haslam and Dean Ellison are assisting with information on the site, and both will be doing signings at the 1Down5Up exhibition stand at the International Motorcycle Show at Birmingham NEC this month.

The business is the latest e-commerce venture to come out of the North East of England Business & Innovation Centre (BIC) in Sunderland.

Mr Atherton has kick-started the business with his own personal finance and secured a bank loan following BIC support to draft a detailed business plan.

The keen biker, whose full- time job is business development manager for another BIC-based company Eomac, has developed the site with a group of like-minded bikers and following research among 3,000 bikers up and down the country. …
