Weaver Foundation Gives JMOMA Challenge Grant

The Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art received a $500,000 challenge grant last last week from The Weaver Family Foundation to cover building renovations and provide support for present and future art exhibitions.

The challenge grant means that for every dollar JMOMA raises, the Weaver Foundation will donate another dollar [up to $500,000], said Jane Craven, JMOMA's president and CEO.

The grant was given as part of the public launching of JMOMA's capital campaign fund-raising effort. The goal is to raise $9 million, of which $5 million would help pay for the completed renovations and $4 million would go toward an endowment to cover museum operations.

The endowment would provide $200,000 annually for the operating budget, which doubled once the museum moved into the new building in May, Preston H. Haskell, arts supporter and chairman of the museum's Campaign Cabinet, said. "The endowment income is dependable income that every institution needs to give us financial stability and security to plan ahead," he said. …
