Legendary rock guitarist Eric Clapton is to perform in the North-East for one night only.

Famous for global hits such as Layla and Wonderful Tonight he will be at the Newcastle Telewest Arena on April 27 next year.

Sure to be one of the most memorable concerts of 2004, it will see a genuine rock superstar performing to what will certainly be a full house of devoted fans.

Clapton has been hailed as one of the most talented blues guitarists of his generation.

He learned the blues at art school, copying BB King and Freddie King but developing his own distinct style which saw him nicknaked Slowhand.

After joining The Yardbirds he gained a reputation as the most skilled instrumentalist on London's R&B scene.

Periods with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Cream helped to propel him to superstar status.

Clapton has had many hit singles but none as popular as Layla, which he composed and performed with the band Derek and the Dominos. …
