North-East jet-setters can take advantage of more cheap flights after budget airline easyJet announced new services flying out of Newcastle.

The airline has flown more than half a million passengers out of Newcastle in the last 12 months.

As well as new services to Malaga, Spain, and Copenhagen, Denmark, there will be a third daily flight added to its existing service to Bristol.

The new services begin on December 11, providing a further boost to the region's tourism sector. Flights to Malaga and Copenhagen start from pounds 22.99 single.

Around 20 new jobs will be created, with a fourth easyJet plane being sited at Newcastle.

EasyJet began low cost flights to Barcelona, Alicante and Belfast in March, followed by services to Prague and Bristol five months later.

The new services have proved popular among North-Easterners and people coming to the region. Passenger numbers topped 400,000 in the last six months and 550,000 in the last year. …
