Darlington striker Barry Conlon will be sidelined for at least eight weeks with the ankle injury he picked up against Bristol Rovers at the weekend.

Conlon was stretchered off 10 minutes into the second-half of Saturday's diabolical 4-0 home defeat and manager Mick Tait had feared the forward could be out of action until the New Year.

That fear was relieved a little yesterday with the news the ankle was sprained and not broken, but it is still a major blow to the Quakers.

Tait's side, who entertain Hull City in the LDV Vans Trophy this evening, are already severely stretched through injuries and suspensions and after being ruthlessly brushed aside by Bristol on Saturday, the visit of the Third Division's runaway leaders looks ominous. The average age of the Darlington side on Saturday, which included four teenagers, was just 21 and Tait knows he and his players could be in for another testing 90 minutes.
