Clive Woodward was forced to change his plans for England's crucial World Cup clash with South Africa tomorrow after suffering a double injury blow.

Lions pair Matt Dawson and Richard Hill have both been ruled out of the encounter in Perth after sustaining hamstring injuries in last Sunday's 84-6 victory over Georgia.

Dawson's place at scrum-half will be taken by Kyran Bracken, with Leicester's Lewis Moody lining up in the back row instead of Hill.

Andy Gomarsall will provide scrum-half cover on the bench with Joe Worsley also now featuring among the replacements.

Woodward had hoped that Dawson and Hill, who have more than 100 Test caps between them, would recover in time.

"I thought they would be fit but this is not a game to take any risks," Woodward said today.

"You've got to go with players who are 100pc fit. They are just minor injuries, but they've not quite made it.

"The medical opinion was that Matt would be fit by Friday, but he's not quite there and neither is Richard Hill. …
