London Calling

The launch of Joe Strummer's posthumous album 'Streetcore' It was an emotional but cheery evening at White Cube as Damien Hirst and Strummer's widow Luce threw a party to celebrate the launch of Streetcore.

Sadie Frost bumped into her ex-husband Gary Kemp and his new wife - but the reunion was anything but frosty. Jay Jopling, Francesca Amfitheatrof and Meera Syal mingled among the cow's heads as they ate fish and chips.

And the booze? A Tanqueray No Ten Purple Haze was specially created for the evening. Basically, a Tanqueray martini with a Sambuca rinse - Strummer would have been proud.

An evening in aid of Facing the World

The former Saatchi gallery was transformed into the rooftop Skybar of LA's Mondrian Hotel for an evening in aid of Facing the World, the charity run by Natascha McElhone's husband, Martin Kelly, which provides plastic surgery in the Third World. Vanessa Neumann, Charles Finch and Sally Greene were just some of the guests caught glugging, courtesy of California Wine.

It takes a lot to be as cool as Clint.

Preview of Bono's illustrations at Christie's With the help of his daughters, Jordan and Eve, U2's frontman Bono illustrated Peter and the Wolf to accompany the CD of his friend Gavin Friday's modern take on Prokofiev's classic. The originals are being auctioned, so friends of the sincere and diminutive pop star flocked to Christie's for a sneaky peek. Done in mixed media (everything from Biro to paint), the drawings have been favourably compared to Bono's artistic heroes, Basquiat and Haring. Laughing over champagne with his Dublin buddies, the Irishman said: 'I have been playing down what I think of my pictures because someone told me they were bad. But I don't think modesty suits me - I think they are really good.'

Brief encounter

Nicky's star party: the Luxury Briefing Awards ceremony It really is all about me. I went to see Derrick the hairdresser at Me's, Abingdon Road. Nothing like a good haircut to shave years off you. Then the faux-Zoltar blazer was back in action for the Luxury Briefing Awards for Excellence. …
