Danny Mills today warned that Boro need a sharper cutting edge - or the consequences could be serious.

The flying full back praised the team's performance in the 1-0 derby defeat to Newcastle, but admitted they should never have lost the game.

"I'm bitterly disappointed, to be honest," he said.

"Again we've played well, we've created plenty of chances to win, but we haven't got that cutting edge at the moment and we're getting punished for it.

"Against Leeds we dominated play and against Chelsea we were on top for lengthy periods. But all to no avail.

"Somehow we've got to turn it around.

"The only pleasing thing is we're playing well. The performances have given us confidence to keep playing well.

"If we can keep going, hopefully our luck will change and the goals will come."

Mills thinks it's too early to panic yet but believes people are right to be quietly concerned.

He said: "We've got to be careful. It's easy to say we're too good to go down though it is too early to say that yet."

He added: "We're lacking that bit of luck. With Mendi's header, people will say great save from the keeper, but a yard either side and it would have been a goal.

"And there were about four ricochets and we hit the bar in a goalmouth scramble in the first half.

"I also think we had a couple of half-decent shouts for penalties. But, hopefully, the luck will even itself out. We will keep working hard and keep battling."

Mills has made a big impact since signing a one-season loan-deal from Leeds in August. …
