A man is facing criminal charges after his car was involved in a collision which left a motorcyclist dead.

An inquest yesterday heard Colin Brown, 43, suffered chest injuries when a Rover car, driven by Paul Moncaster, of Lanchester, Co Durham, pulled out in front of oncoming traffic on the A691 Durham to Consett road on May 16. North Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle gave a verdict of accidental death.

Star's message

SUNDERLAND-born rock star Dave Stewart is backing Nelson Mandela's campaign to highlight the impact of Aids on Africa's millions of victims. He has co-written the track 46664 (Long Walk To Freedom) with Bono and the late Clash singer Joe Strummer, which is released today by the campaign.

FAMILY and friends of Gary Dixon, who went missing from his home in Grindon, Sunderland, on October 6, have made a public appeal.
