North Shields and Birtley Town are now neck and neck with Stokesley SC at the top of the table.

The pair took advantage of Stokesley being on cup duty and the trio now have the same number of points with just goals difference separating them.

North Shields gained a last-gasp win at New Marske. It looked as if the match would end in stalemate but, in stoppage time, Robins' skipper David Little curled in a shot from outside the penalty area. It was an effort worthy to win any match.

Despite being reduced to 10 men just before the interval, New Marske gave the Ralph Gardner Park side a severe test.

Birtley Town, following an indifferent start, are now in a strong position to retain the title. They had to come from behind when they hosted Jarrow, who went ahead when Andy Smith rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an unguarded net.

It was not until six minutes before the interval that Birtley levelled through Michael McKay and Craig McManus netted the winner midway through the second half. …
