Cumbria: Police are appealing for information on bogus BT officials targeting the Workington area after an elderly woman was harassed in her home. The men called at the home in Great Clifton at 2.30pm on Wednesday posing as BT officials and asked to look at the woman's phone bills and bank details before asking her to let them into the house. The woman refused. Call (01768) 891 999 with information.

GATESHEAD: St Mary's Church is due to be refurbished and restored after several fires. The work will be funded by Gateshead council which has received pounds 500,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The intention is to rebuild the church along with a 17th century mausoleum and preserve it from future damage.
