A mum-of-three died after suffering a stomach injury when she fell "like a tree" down some steps after a night out, an inquest has heard.

Deborah Wilkinson, 37, of High Newham Road, Stockton, died on March 28 last year as a result of multi-organ failure.

Teesside's assistant deputy coroner Anthony Eastwood recorded a verdict of accidental death.

The inquest at Teesside Coroner's Court heard a police investigation was launched after Mrs Wilkinson's husband was accused of kicking her in the stomach.

But a post-mortem found no evidence of an assault.

Mrs Wilkinson's husband Kevin, now of Sunnyside Grove, Hartburn, told the inquest he, his wife and their daughter had enjoyed a night out at a charity function in the Sheraton Hotel in Hardwick with friend Michael Easby.

He left his wife with Mr Easby at Peppe's Pizzeria, Hardwick, while he took their daughter home.
