LuaLua Told to Watch How Pal Robert Hits Back of Net

Sir Bobby Robson has told Lomana LuaLua to take a leaf out of his good friend Laurent Robert's book in the wake of last night's Carling Cup exit at the hands of West Bromwich Albion at St James' Park.

The United boss went for a twin spearhead of LuaLua and Shola Ameobi and the only goal they managed was in his own net by the latter.

LuaLua had a good enough game apart from when it mattered most - in front of goal.

Robson was particularly angry at a 75th-minute miss by the Democratic Republic of Congo striker as had he taken that chance, United would probably have gone through to the last 16 of a competition they have never won.

Robson said after the match: "I thought Shola and LuaLua did very well. Both had chances to win the game and should have.

"Shola hit the post with a header in the first half and he could have had a hat-trick.

"LuaLua probably had the best chance of the second half when he tried to roll the ball past the keeper. …
